Doug, a founding partner of Eastmed Doctors, and a long time GP in Glendowie died Friday 11 October.
Doug trained at Dunedin Medical School. After working in New Zealand, he undertook further medical work in the UK. On return to New Zealand, joined Dr Ellis Grieve and Dr Fred Strange at the Glendowie Medical Center.
Doug was forward thinking. He was involved in medical student and GP Registrar training from an early stage. His was the first medical Practice to start using Medtech computer system in the 1980’s. He was an early member of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. He was one of the driving forces in setting up the BayCare A&M Clinic in the early 1990’s. He was instrumental in forming the EastMED Integrated Health Centre. He was one of the foundation partners and directors of EastMED Doctors. Doug also served on the Procare (PHO) board for many years.
In 2016 Doug retired to spend a well-deserved retirement with his wife Lynn. He is survived by Lynn, their 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
Doug was held in very high regard by his peers and patients alike, and we are saddened at his passing.
